Polbrand Sp. z o.o. is a leading supplier of hard coal supplied for the requirements of the commercial power industry as well as wholesale and retail customers. The company is also involved in producing and selling heat from its own district heating plant, as well as in trading in biomass.

The acquired assets include 14 hectares of industrial land with buildings, engineering structures, machinery and equipment for coal enrichment and mining waste recycling, and a railway siding and storage yards, located in the centre of Dąbrowa Górnicza. The company started the modernization of the plant by making necessary investments. At present, Polbrand uses the plant for coal storage and for the process of obtaining appropriate fractions of coal as a result of compilation of its different types. In the future the company is planning to use it also in the process of coal enrichment.
The company was established in 1992. Initially, it was involved in importing fossil fuels and fertilizers, such as potassium salt, from the former Soviet Union. Since 1995, it has focused in importing hard coal for the commercial power industry and individual users. Due to several years of safe and stable co-operation the Company has managed to establish and maintain permanent relationships with both its suppliers and customers.
Poland’s accession to the European Union has created new opportunities for the Company, which seized them and changed its strategy as a result. The Company started investing in the power sector, which resulted in its becoming the owner of two district heating plants at Sztutowo and Kopytkowo in Pomerania Province.
Its further development was closely parallel with the dynamic economic growth. As a result of the strengthening of its position in the coal market Polbrand Sp. z o.o. created a network of coal depots in Gdańsk, Kopytkowo, Braniewo and Małaszewicze. Since 2008, the Company began importing coal also by sea, which greatly improved the entire logistics process and helped lower the costs.
At present, the Company intends to rapidly develop its business whilst making every effort to ensure the highest quality in terms of the goods it offers as well as its approach to comprehensively meet the needs of its customers.
Polbrand Sp. z o.o. imports hard coal primarily directly from Czech Republic, Russia (the Kuzbass Basin – the largest coal mining area in that part of the world, Khakassia) and Kazakhstan, hard coal is also imported from countries such as: the USA, Venezuela or South Africa. The Company plans to further diversify its coal sourcing base.
Owing to more than 20 years of experience the Company has managed to form and maintain permanent relationships with reputable suppliers, such as: KHW S.A., PG Silesia,Cargill International S.A., Bulk Trading S.A.
Since 2004, the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Polbrand Sp. z o.o. has been Mr Maciej Ziembicki, who has 15 years of experience in management. A number of strategic decisions were taken during his tenure.
The Company has significantly increased its capabilities and market value. It has focused on developing its offer of hard coal, including extending its own network of coal depots. Its production of heat and trade in biomass has been expanded. Through the use of sea transport it has been possible to increase its logistics capabilities and speed of deliveries as well as sign a number of long-term contracts. As a result, the position of the Company is stable and the scale of its operations is constantly being extended. This is reflected in both reliability of supply as well as trust and confidence of its customers.

Coal imported by Polbrand Sp. z o.o. has high calorific value as well as low sulphur and ash content. Its parameters makes it a very good supplement to coal offered by Polish coal mines.
The quality parameters of imported coal are verified each time in laboratories of reputable testing companies, such as, for example: SGS Polska, Incolab, Biochemik, where the following are tested: calorific value, moisture, ash, sulphur and volatile content. As a result, customers are assured that the ordered goods meet all the necessary standards. Polbrand Sp. z o.o makes every effort to ensure that its offer is competitive owing to the reliability of coal supply and quality.
In order to ensure complete customer service Polbrand Sp. z o.o. handles the entire logistics process relating to transport and delivery of coal. It is transported by sea from sea ports, such, for example, St. Petersburg or Riga to the sea port in Gdańsk [Gdynia?] or Szczecin. From there it is transported to the company’s coal depots or directly to the end-user in railcars or trucks.
Our coal trucks pass through the following border crossings: Mamonowo/Braniewo, Brześć/Terespol, Mościska/Medyka.
The depots located in Braniewo, Szczecin, Międzyrzecze Podlaskie and coal handling terminal in Gdańsk allow that the whole process is done quickly and efficiently. Furthermore, it is under permanent control by the Company’s logistics process control personnel. To ensure the highest quality and safety of the goods, also while it is transported, Polbrand Sp. z o.o does not store coal in railcars.
